According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, which includes crimes that were not reported to the police, 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That's more than 600 women every day

In US, The Justice Department estimates that one in five women will experience rape or attempted rape during their college years, and that less than five percent of these rapes will be reported

Nearly one-third of American women (31 percent) report being physically abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives, and thirty percent of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by a husband or boyfriend in the past year.


In US thirty percent of female murder victims have been killed by their intimate partners.

Sexual assault continues to represent the most rapidly growing violent crime in America, claiming a victim every 2 minutes. The Bureau of Justice Statistics National Crime Victimization Survey for 1999 estimates that 383,000 women were the victims of rape, attempted rapes, and sexual assaults.


The National Crime Victimization Survey indicates that for 1999, 69% of rapes were committed by known assailants
