Two minor offenders are at risk of execution in Iran

Two boys, convicted of offences allegedly committed as minors, are at risk of execution, reported the Iranian daily Etemad.

According to the report, one of the boys identified as Reza, is convicted of murdering another boy under a street fight, 6 years ago when he was 16 years old. The report says that according to the forensic doctor. Reza has a psychiatric disorder. Reza can not recall that he has stubbed the the other boy who is identified as Rahman.

The other boy is identified as Hossein, who is also sentenced to death convicted of a murder 6 years ago, at the age of 16. He is also convicted of stubbing another boy under a street fight. However according to his lawyer, Hossein has acted in self defence and besides there is not enough evidence showing that Hossein is the one who caused teh murder.

Both sentences have now been approved by the Iranian supreme court and sent further to the section for implementation of the verdict in Tehran. They could be executed in the near future.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: Regardless of the offence these two young men have committed, their execution is a clear violation of the UN’s cpnvention of children’s rights, which bans death penalty for offences committed as a minor, and that Iran has ratified"

Good blog.

It is true, yet the government of the IRI have violated Article 37 (a) of CRC countless times, and the UN do effectively little to enforce this binding provision.
